On February 17-18, 2000, the motley group of railfans pictured below gathered at the Martin Street crossing in Folkston, GA, to watch and capture digital images of a few of the many trains passing their location. The Florida Funnel sees 45-60 trains per day between Folkston, at the northern apex of the Funnel, and Callahan, FL. Here are some of the trains we saw in February.
The MOW "pumpkin" caboose below was on the rear of work train AO 36 as it headed out of the siding at Martin St. to begin rail work on the Jesup sub line from Folkston to Waycross.
Pictured from left are Gulf Wind Chapter, NRHS members Crick Hatch, Cookie Williams, Sanford Lovingood and Kent Weissinger. Not pictured is digital photographer Bill Boyle.
