Western Maryland Railway

NOTES AND INFO:

The Alco FA2's were WM's only non-EMD cab units. They were delivered in January of 1951 and were rated at 1500 hp. WM had four of these units, #301-304. They saw service mostly around Hagerstown, and finished their careers on the WM serving as helper units pulling freights into Hagerstown from both the east and west. 304 was the only unit that was painted red/white black. Later, these units were transferred to the Long Island Railroad for service, where they were all heavily modified and not very well taken care of. Today 2 of these units have been saved on their way to the gallows. 302 is in possession of the Western Maryland Railway Historical Society, but has not been moved from Long Island to a site where it can be worked on. 303 was obtained via a person with the B&O Railroad Museum, but restoration plans aren't in the near future. Neither unit is forecast to be operational, due to modifications or damage, but the 302 will be painted in the fire ball scheme, and 303 will most likely see the speed scheme.
