This station was located 104 km from Asmara. There was another station
at 102 km which served (then) and adjacent village. The Keren station
now serves as a bus station, but should return to train station status
before 2005.

There was a second rest center at Keren. I remember going there with someone and that is about it. Unfortunately, 38 years has removed most of those memories. Even if I had, I did not go there by the Railway.

The above picture was taken by Dave Engstrom in 1998. It
is from the roof of the Red Sea Hotel. According to Dave, this hotel
was built after my watch. What little memory of Keren as refreshed
by a map of the city in Guide to Eritrea tells me we are looking
at Giro Fiore in America, this would be called "Flower Circle."
Behind Giro Fiore, the trees at the end of the street are blocking our
view of the Railway Station.
The above map is an exerpt from one shown in Eritrea 1941...Hense,
the Generale's headquarters. The map ended at the location shown
on the right and did not show the station closer to Asmara.
I know that Ernie Franks did got to Keren by train and has some Black and White pictures of the trip. I have lost touch with him the last few years, but will try to get back in touch. Ernie was one of the last Americans stationed at Kagnew Station.
The other bits about my tour at Asmara are only refreshed because I took pictures with an archival film...Kodachrome.
