First, the reader should understand that this was taken in the mid to late 1930s. These skinny young men are probably now in their eighties or nineties.
Much information can be gleaned from this picture. From my slide:
I know that this is the 'front' of the car as being driven. The
Ghinda Station is to the right. Hence, in the top picture, Massawa
is ahead on the tracks and Asmara is behind the observer. The driving lights
are dark on the unit nearest the station. Renato tells me that the
rear of the train was red in Italy. We can expect that the unit nearest
the station is heading toward Massawa. The other two units are headed
for Asmara.
The logo on the side is different from the one shown on the
picture that Francesco Quaglio sent me.
