LE&N 939
[LE&N 939]
MY FAVORITE LE&N CAR - 939

On April 3, 1954, I took this photograph of LE&N 939, sitting at the Preston Junction Station, with a Kodak Brownie 620 box camera. I still have the camera although it was retired many years ago. Car 939 was assigned to the Preston-Hespeler run this day. Built by Preston Car & Coach in 1915 as 255, it became 939 in the 1921 renumbering program.

I absolutely loved the LE&N wood cars, especially 939. How could anyone not love that "face"?

One of the saddest days of my life, and one of the saddest sights I have experienced, was on May 1, 1955 when I saw 939 in the process of being scrapped at Preston. A tear will still fill my eyes when I look at a picture of this car and think of that day.
