New York, Susquehanna & Western train HAN-2
rounds the well-known curve at Baird's Farm, NY near
Warwick, NY. Seen on July 6, 1992, NYSW B40-8 4008
handled the double-stack train, handling containers for
Hanjin headed for Little Ferry, NJ.
Susquehanna eastbound doublestack train SLN-4 passes
by ZINC, at Franklin, New Jersey on NYS&W's ex-Lehigh
& Hudson River mainline. The block signal to the left
of the lead unit originally protected a NYSW diamond.
This is the former location of a zinc plant, which at one
time hosted a small yard. SLN-4 is powered by GATX 2006
and NYS&W 4002 (ex-UP SD40-2, B40-8), seen here on

Here is a view of Amtrak's engine facility at 30th
Street Station in Philadelphia. The Schuylkill Expressway
and the Philadelphia Art Museum are visible in the right

Here is a westbound New Jersey Transit train passing
Port Morris, NJ; once the site of an Erie Lackawanna
yard. It was also the site of the junction with the Port
Morris Cutoff which ran from this location to Scranton as
part of EL's east-west main line from Hoboken west
through Scranton. This train is pulled by a GE U34CH - a
rare passenger unit built for the EL in the late 1960's.
Port
Morris yard has been revitalized into a coach yard for
NJT, built in 1995. There is some hope for the relaying
of track on the Port Morris Cutoff to establish possible
commuter service into Stroudsburg, PA and the Poconos.
The U-boat has been retired (where are they now?) and
replaced by a variety of rebuilt GP40's.
When I was in fifth grade, our class took a trip to
the Philadelphia Zoo. My mom was a chaperone on this
trip. She had enough foresight to shoot this picture of a
SEPTA PCC car. The car is working R-15 on Girard Ave,
crossing Carlisle Street in North Philadelphia. Thanks
