The Beginnings Of The
DS & RG
[Desert Springs & Rattler Gap]
Outdoor Railroad

In the beginning there was nothing !!
Then some dang fool, known as Tiny, came along
with a dream of a Outdoor Railroad.
He started digging a large hole, and piled the sand
a few feet away. This was by no means easy, as
most of the spot he had chosen to dig in,
was known as hardpan. Using a iron bar to chip off
small pieces, and using his shovel to throw all
this on the pile, which was taking on the shape of a
large 'S'. The family laughed, neighbors thought him
nuts, but the fool kept on moving tons of sand and
hardpan. The came the lava rocks, heavy 150 lbs.
rocks, and 2 lbs. rocks, and every size between,
load after load, he went out in the desert and loaded
the truck and hauled them in. Now Tiny started to
line the hole and surround the pile of sand with rocks,
filling chinks here and there, the sand was back filled
behind the rocks.

This was the humble beginnings of the
Desert Springs & Rattler Gap

As you will see in the many photos, This part
of the west is not tamed by many people.
The people that live here, think and live life
differently the most populated areas.
It's still legal to carry a gun on your hip.

I left a lamp for late nite visitors
