  • May need to install a microphone system.
  • Dispatcher offline too often.
  • Salida Transfer Yard switch problems: #3 (sticks), #5 (points gauged too tight-nest), #8 (Micro-switch not changing polarity)
  • 2 cars sent to RIP Track.
  • Loco #459 pulled from service (dirty wheels?)
  • Loco #3612 had gear "noise"
  • PeteD provided a write-up for Barrel/Cleora Operator
  • NG Staging switch not changing polarity.
  • Need Yard Limit and No Engine signs.

    EXTRA BOARD:

  • Crew - Club Members: 7, Guests: 3 (Largest Operating group to date)
  • New phone system was excellent! One glitch with system turning off for a couple minutes.
  • Engine #452 performed stiff on tight left hand curves - tended to derail tender.
  • Tortoise motor in helix caught Caboose on Train #74.
  • Shinohara switch on west side of Gunnison Main or ladder has raised area causing bump.
  • Marshall Pass east slope turnout to MP snowshed siding was troublesome.
  • Engine shortage - pulled #321's loco from staging for Monarch Turn.
  • Interchange track at Portland seemed to work out OK.
  • West end turnout at Parlin had bad rail connection to feeder, joiner soldered. May need to be gapped.
  • Used Load Blanks for extra SG loads that are still in the shop.

    EXTRA BOARD:

  • Youth Force: (1) age 5.
  • Mini-crew today! Club Members: 2, Guests: 4
  • Transfer Yard ladder Switch #6: Both points needed resoldering and motor died. Recommend new switch point and Tortoise.
  • Barrel switch #31 needed adjustment on throw bar to micro-switch contact . Micro-switch not closing tight.
  • Staging deck Yard Ladder Tortoise to Track #5 inoperable - may be loss of power to tortoise motor.
  • Radio communications: 6 radios removed from service as inoperable. With small crew, radios not used.
  • Gray's Siding west switch - Switch polarity failure - frog not changing - shorted out track to Marshall Pass - needs isolation.
  • Gray's Siding east switch - Derailments, slight kink on turnout but "S" off switch - may need to be replaced with #8 RH turnout.
  • Gorge - new rock face protruding into track space hitting cars, need to blast some rock out.
  • Poncha Junction - Scenery protruding into track space hitting cars, (between PJ prior to Otto bridge) need to cut back.
  • Barrel Operations: 1st time operating removing NG loads and inserting SG loads. One operator for SG and one NG.
  • Barrel Operations: Need to tighten up drawer slides for load drawers. Need throttle holder. May need shelf for loads.
  • Parkdale: Corner shelf requested.
  • Monarch/Crested Butte: Recommend shelf space for load transfers.

    EXTRA BOARD:

  • Our Youth Force numbered four, between ages 5 and 17.
  • Eight guest operators!
  • Transfer Yard ladder Switch #6 died.
  • DG Mainline Switch #2B was slow to close, possibly not closing all the way
  • NG Turntable Switch #17 needs notch in stock rail to "nest" point rail, many gons derailed while pushing through switch.
  • Scenic Limited (Zephyr) Observation car rear truck had 1 derailment.
  • Radio communications was terrifically worse than ever. More interference possibly from proximity.
  • Pre-OPS Briefing was shorter thanks to guidelines sent out with Ops notice.

  • We had 5 new first time operators, including two under age 18.
  • Switch #1 - West Salida Main 1st/2nd Switch, motor problem - replace with Tortoise.
  • Electrical issues in Salida yard/mains?
  • Salida dead rails resoldered.
  • Radio communications worsen with more operators. Need to go to Handsets.
  • Pre-OPS Briefing not available because of untimely computer update. Put on thumb drive.
  • Largest group of Operators to date.
  • Fell behind on SG schedule and left 3 trains at Embarkation locations, but ran one unscheduled.
  • Ran all NG schedule except one, but ran one unscheduled.

    EXTRA BOARD:

  • Switch #17 - Salida NG Turntable, Hankscraft motor gears shot.
  • Cleora Switch from Mainline to Main #1: NG needs guide rail to protect point.
  • Staging Deck Reverse Loop: FT A-B-B-A too much amperage draw, need to reset.
  • Crested Butte switch nearest to tunnel exit at Coke Ovens - inoperative.
  • Recommendation - Hammerheads preferred over simple throttles (KentS).
  • Zephyr cars with derailments in helix.
  • Baldwin trains were in wrong order in Baldwin staging.
  • Salida Switch #25 had some loose connections on the tortoise.
  • Lesson Learned from Barrel: Extract more NG empty gons by using 1st Main, divert trains on siding if necessary.
  • Monitor in Dispatch was useful observing progress.
