Missouri Pacific EV Caboose #13556
Here's a model that I'm excited about. This is a conversion of the Athearn Extended Vision kit to fit the MoPac Extended Vision caboose. Sam has taken extensive measurements and photos of the real MP 13556 inside and out, drawn his own plans, cut and reassembled the body parts including the cupola, made his own interior parts and is now at this stage of construction. The attention to detail is supurb as can be seen. Did I mention the cupola windows will open? I'm hoping Sam is going to tell how to paint the floor like that! I'm really looking forward to seeing this caboose as a finished model. For my part, I'm enjoying supplying detail photos and miscellaneous information as needed to further the project. It's really nice to see this model take shape. Elvin
Model and photos by Sam Loyd.Below is the project as it continues to evolve. Here Sam is test fitting the interior castings and checking if his seats are going to fit. Those are actual cushioned seats by-the-way though he drew the ine at making the backs walk-over as the real ones are. As can be seen, the center frame is revealed which means Sam is working on a full underframe for the caboose with grid decking of course !
Model and photos by Sam Loyd.Below is the project as of November 15, 2007. Sam has added the window screening in the cupola which the Tipton, Missouri caboose has, the water tank is installed and one of the end door frames is installed. Some window and door framing left to go. It was decided to remove the end steps as a full underframe will be constructed. Doing this will require more photos and so the project is on hold till those can be had.
