Missouri Pacific 13496

a xC&EI #9 Riveted Steel, Streamlined Cupola (SSC) caboose.

I only got to photograph in Sedalia, Missouri a couple of times, so when I was there on December 20, 1984, I didn't have a clue what I was looking at.   The lines of cabooses were amazing after treking all over trying to find a MP caboose to shoot.   This line of cabooses were on their way out for donation.   MP 13496 will wind up in Harrison, Arkansas for their Chamber of Commerce and MP 13495 is on it's way to the Great Plains Transportation Museum in Wichita, Kansas.

I'd like to be able to say that this caboose is enjoying it's retirement but I can't.
With doors swinging in the breeze, windows missing, the smoke stack uncovered and birds roosting in it,
it is only a matter of time till it becomes an eye sore to be gotten rid of.
That would be a shame when with just a little care, it could be a real attraction for this community.
Take a look here for an article on the History of this caboose.   Close the window to come back.
