Vernon

Note:
Sometime before of April 22, 2020, this wigwag
was either deactivated or stolen. The motor box and banner came up missing.
They may have been purposely removed by the railroad, but we're unable to confirm.

This is a slightly unusual former AT&SF wigwag, located on
49th St. in Vernon on the BNSF Harbor Sub. The original banner was either damaged or
stolen a few years ago, so a BNSF signal maintainer scratch-built a replacement.

As of May 2000, this (former SP) wigwag is still standing at Gifford St. near Randolph on the La Habra Sub. (Formerlay called the Walker Line) This line connects with the Wilmington Sub and crosses, but does not connect with the future Alameda Corridor line.  The La Habra Sub is a secondary DTC route used to get trains to and from the harbor area, mostly westbounds though. Gifford Ave. is located at MP490.06 and is right on the border of Huntington Park and Bell. This line will probably see even less traffic after completion of the Alameda Corridor.

Thanks to Alan Newton for providing additional information on this rail line.
