CW44AC 1 /
Spirit of West Virginia
An official Spirit unit painted and letterd by CSX at their Huntington shops. Given the Spirit status, along with the number this CW44AC carries, it is one of the most sought after CSX locomotives to photograph.
CW44AC 295 /
Spirit of Clinchfield
I don't know if this one is paying tribute to the Railroad or the region, but either way I doubt this one is officially sanctioned by CSX.
CW44AC 356 /
Spirit of Brunswick
Brunswick, MD should have a Spirit unit being such a great railroad town, but that lettering just looks too small to be official.
CW44AC 391 /
Spirit of Dante
Official? Not official? I can't figure this one out. The lettering is very nicely done, but I think too small to be officially done.
CW44AC 454 /
Spirit of Magnolia
I have to say this one is unofficial. As beautiful of an area as the Magnolia cutoff is, I can't see CSX officially honoring it with a Spirit unit.
CW44AC 500 /
Spirit of Grafton
This one is Official. The Huntington shops repainted an almost brand new unit 500 into the then new CSX-yn3 scheme just for the dedication as a Spirit unit.
CW60AC 601 /
Spirit of Waycross
CW60AC 601 was an official Spirit unit dedicated shortly after delivery from GE.
CW60AC 602 /
Spirit of Maryland
CW60AC 602 was an official Spirit unit dedicated at the B&O Museum shortly after arriving for work on CSX.
SD70AC 700 /
Spirit of Cumberland
The 700 was an official Spirit unit, and was used in signs all around the Cumberland shop facilities. It was later wrecked and repaired, and later renumbered 4500.
SD70AC 789 /
Spirit of Nashville
Another official Spirit unit here. Later renumbered 4589 and repainted into the CSX-yn3 scheme.
GP38-2 2702 /
Spirit of Atlanta
The 2702 wore the name "Franklin M. Garrett" back in the Family Lines Days. When originally painted CSX it lost the name, but upon repainting in 2004, the "Franklin M. Garrett" reappeared along with the Spirit of Atlanta lettering.
SD70AC 4500 /
Spirit of Cumberland
Former SD70AC 700, now repaired from a bad wreck and wearing a new number.
SD70AC 4500 /
Spirit of Cumberland
As many of the orignal SD70AC units were cycling through the paint shop, the 4500 took her turn. Note CSX dropped the word "The" in the lettering from the prior version on the 4500.
SD70AC 4589 /
Spirit of Nashville
Now wearing a new number, Huntington painted the Spirit of Nashville again, this time in CSX-yn3 paint. Compare the lettering to the photo above of her as 789. It looks identical.
SD80AC 4590 /
Spirit of Benning
Definitely a non-official Spirit of unit here. It is fitting however, as SD80AC units spent alot of time at Benning yard outside of Washington DC.
SD70M 4685 /
Spirit of Mulberry
One of three SD70Ms given Spirit of designation by CSX, all celebrating what was generally their home territory of Florida.
SD70M 4688 /
Spirit of Tampa
One of three SD70Ms given Spirit of designation by CSX, all celebrating what was generally their home territory of Florida.
SD70M 4699 /
Spirit of Miami
One of three SD70Ms given Spirit of designation by CSX, all celebrating what was generally their home territory of Florida.
ES44DC 5500 /
Spirit of Cincinnati
Another unit I just can't tell about. The lettering on the 5500 looks good, but just different.
B30-7 5555 /
Spirit of Cartersville
Cartersville, GA was put on the map with this unit. Definitely unofficial, and whover did this should have picked a unit that was going to stay around a little longer. All the B30-7s were retired not too long after this was done.
