Connecticut S Gaugers

The Connecticut "S" Gaugers was formed in 1981. We are a very informal group of individuals from Connecticut and neighboring states who like to get together once a month, mostly in members' homes. When we do, our sole purpose is to talk about and operate all kinds of "S" Gauge trains.

"S" gauge trains are 1/64 the size of the real ones. In "S" gauge, 3/16 of an inch is equal to one foot in real life. Those of you who have seen or remember the American Flyer® line of tinplate trains will know the size of "S" gauge. In effect, our trains are smaller than the Lionel O gauge and larger than HO.

At the present time our membership is equally distributed among American Flyer® enthusiasts who may collect and/or operate vintage tinplate trains, "S" Scalers who like to detail their trains scaled to exact proportions and the Hirailers who are a hybrid of both American Flyer® and Scale modelers, combining features of both. All of them are considered welcome "S" Gaugers to our club. We have so much to learn from one another!

When we are not meeting in member homes, our club is likely to be involved in displaying an "S" Gauge Modular layout at one of the many local train shows. The modules involved are built by the members of our club according to the National Association of S Gaugers S-MOD Standards. This involves a lot of hard work on the part of our membership but it's well worth the effort. For future growth we need a lot of newer members to take up this challenge and build modules of their own.

Our modular layout display attracts many families and young children who are invited to take a hand at the throttle and operate our trains. American Flyer operating accessories are a major attraction that appeal to kids of all ages.

On the skills level our membership ranges from the neophytes to the craftsmen. Regardless as to where you find yourself on this spectrum today, YOU ARE VERY WELCOME IN THIS CLUB PROVIDING YOU PLAN TO BE AN ACTIVE MEMBER. The real value in attending most membership meetings is talking and generally exchanging information about your favorite hobby and growing in the process.

In summation if you belong to our club it is essential that you will always have the feeling that YOU BELONG and remain a member a very long time.

If you would like to join our club you can fill out a membership application. As a member of our club you will receive the club newsletter which arrives about 10 times a year. Membership costs $10.00. Membership renewal is due in January no matter when you first join.
