Charlie Bettinger's Charlestown and Pattiville RR was named one of the ten best in 1999 by Kalmbach Magazines, featured in their annual "Great Model Railroads, 1999." The acclaim is well deserved. Charlie, a convert from HO, has one of the largest and finest "S" scale empires that I have ever seen. The layout takes up most of the basement of Charlie's home in Vernon, CT and is based upon the New Haven RR and the Central Vermont but the towns are all named after members of his family.

As one crosses the covered bridge at left you are taken from a fall scene to a winter scene. The photo at right shows how Charlie incorporates a few different levels to create a more realistic image. |
