   Among the LMS fleet, 700-739 spent their time on a split lease spending 6 1/2 months on CR and 5 1/2 months on Canadian National. That lease was originally set to expire in year 2012.

   At split date, the lease arrangement was terminated and all were subleased through Conrail Corporation (CRCX) with LMS 700-714 to CSX and 715-739 to NS. This arrangement was then terminated again in year 2001 and re-wrote to give 700-711 to CSX, 712-727 to NS and 728-739 to CN.

   The lease still expires in 2012 when the units will either be purchased outright by the holder or returned to owner.

   Conrail originally leased LMS 740-759 until they were purchased, after which they became CR 6266-6285 all now owned outright. These are the ONLY Conrail C40-8W's in the NS, CSX class that have the possibility to exist on both railroads until the end of time.

   700-739 were painted with LMS initials while the second order, 740-759, arrived in the standard Conrail Quality scheme. In the summer of 1997 Conrail transferred 740-759 from lease service into the regular fleet and renumbered them 6266-6285 respectively. It was June 7, 1997 when the first unit, 747, was renumbered CR 6273. These are the only units that never sported the LMS initials.
