Once you have received a Registration Confirmation email for the 2019 California Passenger Rail Summit then please go ahead and register for the below tours. If you have already received your Registration Confirmation email, then you can go ahead and register for the tours now. Day One: Oakland Maintenance Facility ToursTwo tours will commence at the Oakland Jack London Station at 7:15 am and 8:15 am respectively. The Group 1 Tour is from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM with check-in at 7:15 AM. The Group 2 Tour is from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM with check-in at 8:15 AM. Please register for ONLY ONE of the two Oakland Maintenance Facility Tour Groups. Tour participants will be transported to and from the Oakland Maintenance Facility via a chartered bus. For the safety of all participants, closed-toe shoes are required, and long pants are preferred. A safety orientation and safety gear (hats and glasses) will be provided. A maximum of 25 participants can be accommodated on each tour. Constructed in 2004 through a partnership between Amtrak and the State of California, the 52,439-square-foot Oakland Maintenance Facility (OMF) features a service and inspection area, fueling station, train washer facility, office space, and two parking lots. The $53 million facility provides preventive maintenance for 28 locomotives and 106 rail cars used on the Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin train routes; daily turn-around servicing for the Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin trainsets; and daily servicing for the Amtrak long distance California Zephyr (11 cars and two locomotives). Approximately 140 employees work to maintain the facility which is in operation 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
