The meeting then proceeded with David Derway talking about N scale track cleaning cars. Several other members got up and talked about their track cleaning cars including Kim Parker, Don Bullock, Dick Buchan and several other members. Varies cars were demonstrated along with the old sock with 90% isopropyl alchohol.
The Division meeting adjorned at 9pm.

Notes from the January 23 Board of Directors and Division Meetings
Cary, January 23, 2007

Board of Directors Meeting

Superintendent John Janosko called the BoD meeting to order at 6:05 PM with 11 people in attendence. The Clerks minutes and Paymasters report for December were approved. Achievement Program Chairman, Vic Bitleris, posted on CPD13 Yahoo Groups regarding brake rigging. Regarding the CPD13 annexed regions, John Janosko said that several positive comments had been sent in to the MER.
Under new business, it was passed that the Membership Chairman position be discontinued due to the redundancy provided by the NMRA membership rule changes. It was also noted that CPD13 has the highest attendance record in the MER region. We thank Don Jennings for his valuable time and efforts in this position.
Dick Buchan and John Janosko proposed CPD13 joining the Norfolk Southern Historical Society in producing the next CPD13 club car. This would work out to 400 cars vs. 200 cars produced, about a savings of $1/car for the increased bulk rate. Bowser has 2-bay wood chip hopper car that could be used.
Andrew Stitt reported that the Nominating Committee has selected Vic Bitleris and Jerry Mersh to run in the general election.
John Rudisill requested that all future name badges be paid for upfront ($7.50).
Grif Bond brought some paperwork to change the Registered Agent for CPD13.
They're being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:30 PM.

Division Meeting

Superintendent John Janosko called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM with 30 members and 2 guests in attendance. The first guest was Spencer Gay from Fayetteville. The second guest was John Ragan who likes to model the Clinchfield, Southern & Interstate railroads in HO scale.
Mr. Janosko then opened the Annual Meeting portion as required by the State of North Carolina. There was an attendance sheet passed around. Proof of notice was provided several months ahead with meeting minutes. An annual report of officers will be written and sent to the MER.
The election for the new Director on the Board was held. Rob Rousseau and Dave Lynam tallied up the votes.
Gary Holly announced that he was looking for folks to join his operating sessions on his layout in Apex. For anyone who is interested, please contact Gary Holly.
Bill Cox reported that he had brought a $2 car that he had left at home during the December meeting. This was given to one of the guests of the evening.
Joe Getz got up and spoke to the group briefly about the Fayetteville club that he is a member of. They have about 20 members with a diverse range of interests and scales. They currently meet in the Children's Museum in the old city hall in downtown. They are open to the public on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 12pm-4pm, no fee if you are only going to visit them on the 3rd floor. He welcomes anyone to come down to Fayetteville and visit them.
Vic Bitleris made an announcement that the Popular Vote for April in the latest newsletter was incorrect. The popular vote for April has not been scheduled yet. The $2 car makeover will be in February.
Jim Murphy told the group that he had access to some large flat file cabinets. Please contact him if you are interested. They are about 4' x 6' and 12" deep, about 100 lbs. each.
John Janosko congratulated Vic Bitleris for winning the election for the new Board position. It was a close race. The group then took a short break.

After the break Janosko told the group that the Aberdeen, Carolina & Western train ride will be on April 21st if anyone is interested. Please see the Excursions listed below for more information. This is a unique opportunity for some rare freight trackage through beautiful central North Carolina down near the golfing community of Pinehurst and the shortline Aberdeen & Rockfish RR.
The Popular Vote was announced that Gene Sing won with his scratchbuilt gas station as a laundry mat. Gene will have to show us how he made the tiny coat hangers from wire sometime.
The group then watched a DVD called "Building Craftsman Kits" from Dave Lynam. The video explained many technics and details to apply to wooden & plaster structures.
Next month, please bring your track cleaning cars as we will have a clinic on how to improve them.
The meeting adjourned at 8:45 PM.

Contest Guidelines

  1. Contests will occur at each scheduled monthly meeting of the Carolina Piedmont Division or as directed by the Superintendent. Only official CPD13 members or visiting NMRA regional or division members may participate.

  2. The Popular Vote coordinator will decide contest ideas, but suggestions are encouraged from the membership. A list of upcoming topics will be periodically published in the newsletter and listed on the CPD13 web site. This is to give ample time to prepare for the upcoming topics and to show any changes to the original schedule.

  3. Members may enter up to two (2) items per scale per topic. There are no restrictions on the type of items entered as long as they meet the topic subject. Except as specified in the monthly listing items may be new, out-of-the-box, kit-bashed, weathered, scratch-built, etc., and in any scale. A brief description will be allowed (and is encouraged) on a 3x5 card. The models should remain anonymous, so please avoid placing your name anywhere on the table.

  4. Display items will be placed on the designated table prior to the beginning of the club meeting. Each item will be assigned a number. Votes are to be placed in the designated container. The "Most Popular Item" will be announced immediately after the evening program, or as directed by the Superintendent.
