Notes from the February 28 Board of Directors and Division Meetings
Cary, February 28, 2006

Board of Directors Meeting

Superintendent John Janosko called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM. Minutes of the January meeting and the Paymaster's report for January were approved.
Vic Bitleris noted that he posted some files to the Yahoo Groups website to show an example of conformity. There are three files, one is a word document describing the house model. The other two files are scans from the Model Railroader article. Vic also said that the popular vote contest for March will be interchange/switch and gate towers.
John Janosko mentioned that there was no interest in the Duke Children's layout. There was also nothing new in regards to the Charlotte mini-meet. Dave Lynam said it was still in progress and we are waiting to hear from Charlotte.
John Rudisill brought up the issue that the Director's term dates are not correct in the current Herald. The correct dates are: Joe Getz: Jan. 2009, Andrew Stitt: Jan. 2007, Dave Derway: Jan. 2008. He also gave his correct phone number and new location that he lives in.
Dave Lynam suggested that for this year's holiday kids layout may possibly be based on the 2001 Model Railroader layout, Maggie's Cove. A Chessie train set has already been donated. Or possibly the latest Model Railroader layout and have it cut down to 4'x5'.
Rob Rousseau proposed registering the domain name of cpd13.org for the club's website address. The site would still remain on trainweb.org, and the new domain name would point to it. This should make it easier to remember and lookup on the Internet. A motion to go ahead was brought up and passed by the Board and Officers.
Joe Getz brought up John Wallis' e-mail about Yahoo's spyware called Web Beacons. It was recommended to follow John's directions to protect your privacy from Yahoo.
Dave Derway asked if we were going to print new business cards. This may be pursued in the future.
Andrew Stitt suggested that we may have some home layout tours in the Fall. Dick Bucan suggested make part of a cookout.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:30 PM.

Division Meeting

Superintendent John Janosko called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. He thanked those who came in with cars for the popular vote contest. There were a total of 12 cars! Dave Lynam told the group that the trip to Charlotte was in the works.
Vic Bitleris announced his AP files that were posted to the Yahoo Groups. Rob Rousseau has since posted these here: http://trainweb.org/cpd13/ap.html#example. He said that conformity can count anywhere from 0 to 25 points. He announced the popular vote for March will be interchange/switch and gate towers.
A guest was introduced, Kelly Matthews. He models N scale and this was his second time at CPD13.
John Janosko thanked Joe Getz for refreshments. Dave Lynam presented Tom Cook with the Superintendent Award. We now have 55 D&S HO Scale hoppers left out of 250! Thanks Tom!
The winners for the Popular Vote contest was 1st Place: John Janosko, 2nd Place was Jack Frame. Thanks again for your entries!

After the break, Dr. Wood presented Postal Cancellations and envelopes. It was very interesting to see the many different types and values of cancellations. We also learned that a Pictorial Cancel can be made for a special event. More information about obtaining a Commemorative Cancel can be found here. "Officially they're called, "Cancellations for Philatelic Purposes," with details found in section 164 of the bible of US Postal Service (USPS) policy called the Domestic Mail Manual." Usually this should get started about 6 months ahead of your event.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM.
