Notes from the November 22 Board of Directors and Division Meetings
Cary, November 23, 2005

Nineteen members attended the meetings. The Clerk's Minutes of the October 25 meeting and the Paymaster's Report for October were approved.

Note there will be no meeting in December.

The following nominations have been made for Division Officers and Directors for 2006. Elections will be held at the Annual Meeting in January.

John Wallis announced his retirement from the Board effective with the Annual Meeting. Andrew Stitt volunteered to fill the remaing one year of John's term as Director.

Vic Bitleris will take over the Popular Vote contest in January. There was some discussion about whether there should be optional juding of models associated with the contest. It was suggested this could be done as a quarterly program with all members observing and learning about judging. This will be discussed further by the new Board.

Six trainsets have been received for the Holiday Trains for Kids program. An additional four sets are still expected. This provides a total of 10 sets in additiona to the three currently on hand.

Additional Division Cars, a D&S Hopper produced by Stewart, are available for sale at Division Meetings.

The evening's program consisted of a post-mortem on the Rails to Raleigh Convention. All agreed this was one of the best MER conventions ever, and discussed ways in which it could be improved still further. Vic Bitleris then led a discussion of an old testimony in a steam wreck case on the ATSF, reading the testimony of the Head Brakeman. The group then "translated" the RR jargon into english.


Notes from the October 25 Board of Directors and Division Meetings
Cary, October 26, 2005

Twenty-two members attended the meetings. The Clerk's Minutes of the September 27 meeting and the Paymaster's Report for September were approved.

Rob Rousseau agreed to be a candidate for the position of Clerk at the elections to be held at the Annual Meeting in January 2006.

The Division Car, a D&S Hopper produced by Stewart was available at the meeting for pickup by members who had placed advanced orders. Additional cars will be available for sale at the Rails to Raleigh Company Store and at the Train Show.

With the Convention two days away this meeting was the last planning meeting before Rails to Raleigh. The overall convention plans and schedules were reviewed, plus members signed up for various duties at to help us make the convention as success.


Notes from the September 27 Board of Directors and Division Meetings
Cary, September 28, 2005

Thirty members attended the meetings. The Clerk's Minutes of the August 23 meeting and the Paymaster's Report for August were approved.

The Division voted to donate $100 to the Salvation Army for hurricane relief.

The Achievement Program Certificate for Model Railroad Engineer — Electrical was presented to David Derway. The Golden Spike Award was presented to Vic Bitleris.

The next Rails To Raleigh Committee meeting is Saturday, October 1 at 9:00am hosted by Gene. The agenda has been sent to members via the email list. Members were reminded to register for Rails to Raleigh, and that registration is required in order to participate in any aspect of the Convention — this is an NMRA requirement. The initial order of Rails to Raleigh worker shirts was available for purchase and pickup. Sign-up sheets for the Train Show and for Clinic hosts were passed around.

All Officer and one Director positions are open for election at the Annual Meeting in January 2006. Please contact Dick Buchan or John Wallis to nominate someone or volunteer yourself.

The Cary Senior Center has been reserved for 2006. The November and december meetings in 2006 will be the second Tuesday rather than our normal fourth Tuesday. Arrangements are also underway for presentations to the seniors.

The Division has received a significant donation of HO scale equipment from Mike Floyd, who has changed to N Scale.

The final CPD13 operating session on the Arpee & Western (Dick Genthner) is scheduled for Friday afternoon, September 30 at 1:00pm

Bill Cox won the popular vote contest for one of his three logging cars.

Following break, Bill Cox presented a dry run of his Rails to Raleigh Clinic on Two trains to Towanda. Thanks Bill.

The next Division meeting on October 25 will be the final organizational meeting for Rails to Raleigh.


Notes from the August 23 Board of Directors and Division Meetings
Cary, August 24, 2005

Twenty-three members attended the meetings. The Clerk's Minutes of the July 26 meeting and the Paymaster's Report for July were approved.

Vic Bitleris will become the Division's Achievement Program Chairman replacing Dick Genthner. David Derway's application for the Electrical AP certificate has been approved. The presentation of Master Model Railroader (No. 354) to David Lynam will be done at the Rails to Raleigh convention.

The next Rails To Raleigh Committee meeting is Saturday, August 27 at 9:00am hosted by Dick Buchan. The agenda will be sent to members by August 25. Members were reminded to register for Rails to Raleigh, and that registration is required in order to participate in any aspect of the Convention — this is an NMRA requirement. The initial order of Rails to Raleigh worker shirts was available for purchase and pickup.

Notes from the June 28 Board of Directors and Division Meetings
Cary, June 29, 2005

Nineteen members and two guests attended the meetings. The Clerk's Minutes of the May 24 meeting and the Paymaster's Report for May were approved. Starting next month the format of the Paymaster's report will change to show separately the Rails to Raleigh Train Show finances.

David Lynam has become Master Model Railroader No. 354 — congratulations Dave. Formal presentation will take place in the near future. David Derway has received his certificate for the AP Author Award.

Members were requested to complete their review of the proposed Division Bylaws and submit questions, corrections and suggested changes to John Wallis. The new Bylaws will be on the agenda for ratification at the July meeting.

The next Rails To Raleigh Committee meeting is Saturday, June 16 at 9:00am hosted by David Lynam. The agenda will be sent to members early that week. Members were requested to register for Rails to Raleigh as early as possible. Members were also reminded that registrations is required in order to participate in any aspect of the Convention — this is an NMRA requirement.

Based on sales of items at GATS, a donation from the estate of a deceased member and previous=us sales, there is now about $1,000 available for the Holiday Trains for Kids program. The Board voted to use up to $400 of this money to purchase a Lionel train set for Duke Children's Hospital.

Charles Wood has volunteered to present a railroad-related clinic to the Cary Senior Center, as part of our commitment to the Center in return for holding our meetings there. This will be pursued as Charles recovers from his recent surgery.

Dick Buchan and John Wallis were appointed to the Nominating Committee for Division elections in January 1006. All Officer and one Director positions are open. Please contact Dick or John to nominate someone or volunteer yourself.

Model Railroading is the "World's Greatest Hobby"

Kalmbach Publishing, along with the Model Railroad Industry Association and manufacturers such as Atlas and Walthers, has created The World's Greatest Hobby Campaign to promote the hobby of model railroading, and to help recruit new people to the hobby. Directions to Cary Senior Center

Cary Senior Center is located in the Bond Park Complex at 801 High House Road, on the south side of High House Road between Cary Parkway and Northwest Maynard Road.

From the south via US 1 take the Cary Parkway exit and proceed west (left). Turn right at High House Road and proceed east. Bond Park is on your right just past the shops. The Senior Center is located on the first street (most westerly street) into the park.

From the west via US 64 take the Salem Street exit and proceed north. Turn left at Cary Parkway and proceed west. Turn right at High House Road and proceed east. Bond Park is on your right just past the shops. The Senior Center is located on Maury O'Dell Place (the first and most westerly street) into the park.

From Highway 54 west, turn right at Cary Parkway. Proceed to High House Road and turn left. Proceed east on High House Road. Bond Park is on your right just past the shops. The Senior Center is located on Maury O'Dell Place (the first and most westerly street) into the park.

From Highway 54 east, turn left at Northwest Maynard Road. Proceed to High House Road and turn right. Proceed west on High House Road. Bond Park will be on your left. The Senior Center is located on Maury O'Dell Place (the second and most westerly street) into the park.

From Interstate 40 take the Harrison Avenue exit (exit 267). Proceed south on Harrison Avenue to Northwest Maynard Road. Turn right and follow Northwest Maynard Road to High House Road.
