A Trip to Escondido to find a Santa Fe Station

by Chris Guenzler

After I had hosted Lets Talk Trains on Saturday August 6th, 2011 I went to Santa Ana where I bought a Metrolink Weekend Pass before I took Surfliner 774 down to Irvine. Then about fifteen minutes later I boarded Metrolink 657 which I took to the Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs and got off there. I crossed the Pedestrian Bridge to the southbound side. An eastbound BNSF freight came through the station on the track right in front of me and was followed by my Metrolink 656 which I took home to Santa Ana.

8/7/2011 This morning I boarded Surfliner 564 in Pacific Business Class taking this train down to Oceanside.

Pacific Sun Railroad 3513 was out in the Stuart Mesa Yard. Surfliner 564 arrived into Oceanside early and I bought my Sprinter Day Pass to use this morning. I walked out onto the Sprinter Train platform.

Surfliner 564 headed south to San Diego on this sunny morning. A few minutes later here came my Sprinter into the Oceanside Station.

Sprinter 4011 came into Oceanside and I boarded for the trip to Escondido. 55 minutes later we pulled into the Escondido Sprinter Station and I detrained.

The Sprinter got me to Escondido and now I would walk six blocks east to Grape Day Park where I found why I came to Escondido this summer morning.

One more view of the Santa Fe RPO/Coach 112. After that I returned to the Sprinter Escondido Station and took the next Sprinter back to Oceanside. After lunch at Burger King, I went to Platform 2 to wait for my Metrolink Train back to Santa Ana. First I got to see the Metrolink Del Mar Racing Train before Metrolink 657 came into Oceanside to take me home to Santa Ana. It had been a great adventure to Escondido this morning and I call this trip a success.
