The Days of the Western Pacific

The Western Pacific was one of my favorite railroads and it sadden me when it was merged into the Union Pacific on 12/22/1982. Let's now go back in time to look at the motive power of this once great railroad.





Western Pacific first diesel locomotive SW-1 501 is preserved at the Portola Railroad Museum seen there in July of 1992.





Sacramento Northern restored SW-1 402 at the California Railroad Museum in Sacramento in 1989.





WP S-1 512 never existed. It was really ex US Army 7372 painted up as WP 512 at Portola. 7/1992
