Bill wanted to go to Cajon Pass on my birthday but rain showers prevented us from going so we picked January 2nd instead. Elizabeth and I awoke to a clear morning after a night of rain and after our usual morning preparations and Elizabeth making Ovaltine for all of us, we sat out in front of the apartment waiting for Bill to arrive which he did just after 7:00 AM. We drove over to Marty Smith's house and picked him up then drove CA Highway 55 to CA Highway 91 to Interstate 215 to Highland Boulevard, then made our way to Cajon Boulevard where above Devore, found a train at Keenbrook.

Kansas City Southern C44-9W 4586. From here we drove to Hill 582 and waited for the first tain of the morning to pass our photo location; we did not have very long to wait. This was Marty's first trip to Hill 582.

We left Hill 582 and drove Cajon Boulevard down to Highland Boulevard, where we took Interstate 215 to CA Highway 91, exiting at Central to stop at Jersey Mike's for linner. After that Bill drove us back to the apartment and I drove Marty home, ending an excellent Cajon Pass trip.
