It had been several months since the last visit to Cajon Pass. Bill Compton and I arranged for an outing on November 13th and early that morning, he arrived at our apartment complex and Elizabeth and I boarded his truck and we left. We took CA Highway 55 to CA Highway 91 to La Cadena Drive and made our way to Union Pacific's West Colton Yard and parked the car.

In the departure yard was BNSF 6871 East waiting for its trip to Barstow. We then drove to Cajon Pass, parking at Swarthout Road and did not have to wait for a train.

There is a parking area here with a plaque to honor the former Santa Fe engineer Jack Guinn, with 50 years of service born September 21, 1919 to January 26, 2009 Father-Husband-Friend We Love You Man.

Our last train was BNSF 8253 East. Bill drove us down to The Habit where we bought him lunch and we had our linner. He then returned us to our apartment and I watched the Pittsburgh Penguins lose to the Ottawa Senators then wrote this story. It had been a great rail adventure to Cajon Pass with my dear friend Bill Compton.
