Cumbres and Toltec Railroad Part 2 10/03/2021

by Chris Guenzler

We left Osier for Antonito. Now sit back, relax and enjoy the ride to Sublette through the autumn colors.

The train arrived into Sublette. I hope you enjoyed your trip to here. Now here is the trip to the top of Whiplash Curve.

The trip to Whiplash Curve. From here we descended the rest of the way to Antonito through the rain. Elizabeth and I made it to the bus, taking the first two seats. We both would like to thank the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad for an interesting and exciting fall colors trip aboard their route. They are truly a first-class operation and we will back to ride it again in the future. I had always wanted to do a Fall Colors trip on this railroad and now I have done it! Once everyone was aboard, the bus started the trip back to Chama.

Rio Grande Southern C18 2-8-0 425 is really Rio Grande C18 2-8-0 315, built by Baldwin in 1895, as we left the parking lot.

Autumn colours on the way back to Chama.

The snowshed on the wye at Cumbres Pass. We descended the rest of the way to Chama and were the first off the bus and headed to the car. I drove us to Subway to pick up dinner as there were no other restaurants open, and while Elizabeth waited in line, I went to Speedway to pick up breakfast items for the morning. We returned to the motel where we ate and I finished yesterday's story and Elizabeth did her usual Internet checking and watched a television program, then we called it a night.
