Union Pacific Big Boy Chase #2

by Chris Guenzler

Bill Compton and I wanted to go to West Colton. Robin Bowers wanted to join us as did Chris Parker so we all met at my house at 5:55 AM and being a Tuesday I had to let Chris and Robin park in my driveway since it is street sweeping day in Santa Ana. Bill arrived a little after 6:00 AM and soon we were driving up CA 57 to the CA 60 then Interstate 15 to Interstate 10 and off at Pepper Street where we turned the car around and then we parked. We walked out to the bridge at Pepper Street to wait for the Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 to leave this morning from the West Colton Yard.

Union Pacific 4014 East at Pepper Street in West Colton. We left for our next spot to take pictures. We took Interstate 10 and stopped at the rest area at Calimesa before we reached the next spot.

Union Pacific 4014 East at Desert Lawn Drive. It then took us almost 15 minutes due to traffic to get back onto Interstate 10. We were behind the train but despite the traffic we did get ahead of him and reached our next photo location.

Union Pacific 4014 East at Haugen Lehman Way. It took just a few minutes to get back to Interstate 10 and we took it to our last photo location of the day.

Union Pacific 4014 East at North Indian Canyon Road bridge. We took this road south to East Racquet Club Road to CA 111 to Interstate 10 to CA 60 to Interstate 215 to CA 91 to CA 55 to CA 22 and we got to my house after 12:30 PM ending my coverage of Union Pacific Big Boy 4014. It had been another excellent chase of the Big Boy 4014.
