2016 NRHS Convention - Georgetown Loop Chase Bus Trip 7/21/2016 Part 2

by Chris Guenzler

Here our steam engine has uncoupled from our train.

The steam engine ran around our train. The diesel then went by the train and would be used as a helper on our return trip. Now we will reverse under Devil's Gate Viaduct.

The train went under the viaduct and we completed our Georgetown Loop, so would reverse up the grade to Silver Plume.

A car full of very happy NRHS members.

On the way to Devil's Gate Viaduct.

The crossing of the viaduct.

The steam engine sanded the flues and emitted plenty of smoke. We returned to Silver Plume and were the first two bus hosts off the train. It had been a fantastic trip behind steam on the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Once everyone was back on the chase bus, we departed Silver Plume for the scenic overlook off Interstate 70 and I led the way to the "Sweet Spot" for loop photography on the bicyclee trail while Skip Waters brought up the rear. Elizabeth stayed at the overlook with the people who did not want to walk to the "Sweet Spot".

The diesel crossed the viaduct and made its way to Devil's Gate station. Now we would wait for the steam train to do the same thing.

The steam train crossed the viaduct and proceeded to the station.

The engine switching to the west end of the train.

The steam train has completed the Georgetown Loop.

Reversing up the grade and over the viaduct. After this spectacle, it was back to the bus and on to the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden.
