2016 NRHS Convention - Light Rail/Commuter Rail Tour 7/20/2016 Part 4

by Chris Guenzler

Elizabeth and I enjoyed some butterscotch ice cream which hit the spot then made our way to the platform for the A Line train ride.

Our special four-car A Line train at Denver Union Station.

The other end of our A Line train.

We boarded car 4025.

We departed Union Station and passed an inbound wrapped A Line train.

A Denver Light rail train arrived as we departed.

Curving out of Union Station onto new mileage. The BNSF line is adjacent to the A Line.

The BNSF yard.

There were many condominiums and apartments being built near the various light rail lines.

A Union Pacific light movement through the window.

A rail yard scene as we make our way to the first station on this line.

View outside the window.

The grade crossings are currently flagged by people as there have been numerous software problems with the Positive Train Control system. The University of Colorado A Line is the first commuter rail line in the country to have PTC installed when built.

A grain elevator along the route.

Approaching the first station.

38th-Blake station.

The journey to the next station.

40th-Colorado station.

Showing on a screen was a safety program about not crossing the tracks.

More flaggers protecting the grade crossing.

We left the city limits behind and entered open countryside.

A warehouse.

On the long flyover over Interstate 70.

The journey as we approach Denver International Airport, the terminus of the A Line.

Nearing the airport.

Our special convention A Line train had arrived. We went up the escalator to the overlook.

The scene from the overlook.

Our train ready to depart, which we boarded for the return ride to Central Park station.

The A Line makes it very easy to ride directly into Denver International Airport.

An A Line train has just arrived and ours was ready to depart.

We rode to Central Park station where the buses were waiting to take us back to the Holiday Inn. We walked back to our hotel then went to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner. Travelogues were worked on the rest of the evening before we called it a night.
