I drove to the Flint Hills to take pictures of BNSF trains, missed the first one but found a westbound BNSF stack train coming so turned around and returned to the west switch at Matfield Green to set up for pictures. The Flint Hills are glacier outwash from the glaciers that covered North America that extend from the Ozark Mountains west across southern Kansas.
The train came up the siding, stopped and I knew this train would be sitting here for at least twenty minutes.
As I said before, I love clouds!
BNSF 5488 at West Matfield Green.

BNSF 5446 west. From here I drove north, parked and walked up the grade to the Kansas 177 bridge over the BNSF mainline.

The view on my way back to the car. I drove north on Kansas 177 but found a train so returned to a spot I had seen them and set up.

BNSF 7863 west at County Road 333 just east of Bazaar. From here my next stop would be in Strong City.
The Santa Fe station built in 1913. I made my way to Emporia, finding an Arby's there to get some dinner before making my next stop at Fremont Park.
Santa Fe 2-6-2 1015 built by Baldwin in 1921 on display in Emporia.
Santa Fe caboose 999262 built by American Car and Foundry in 1931 as Santa Fe 1983. I met a local railfan and drove over to give him one of my cards and while we were talking, another BNSF train came our way.
BNSF 7435 West at Emporia. From here I checked into the Budget Host Inn for the night and watched the Stanley Cup game on NBC where the Los Angeles Kings won Game 2 5-4 in the second overtime beating the New York Rangers, after which I had a quiet night's sleep.
