Niles Canyon Railway Winterail Photo Special 3/9/2013 Part 2

Next Clover Valley Lumber 4 ran around our train at Niles then we ran a short distance to our first photo runby location.





A Union Pacific auto train ran through Niles. Now the train would reverse for the photo runby and I will show you our train.





Niles Canyon Railway open car 3380 rebuilt by the railway from United States navy flat car 61-03380 built by Greenville Steel Car Company in 1953. It later became Oakland Terminal MW4 and was acquired by the Pacific Locomotive Association in 1995 and rebuilt into an open observation car in 2003.





Southern Pacific concession car 6719, nee Southern Pacific baggage , mail and express car 6719 built by Pacific Car & Foundry in 1962. It was retired on December 23rd, 1970 then briefly leased to Amtrak, although it never was painted into their colors. The car was later purchased by a private owner and the interior was converted into a house. Pacific Locomotive Association acquired the car and moved it to Niles Canyon in the big move of January 8, 2005.





Southern Pacific Harriman coach 1949 built by Pullman in 1911. The car was used in San Francisco-to-San Jose commute service and then later at the McCloud River Railroad in McCloud, California. It was acquired by the Pacific Locomotive Association in February 1970.





Niles Canyon open car 5002 built from Western Pacific flat car 2746 built by the railroad in 1953. It was purchased by Central California Traction and numbered MW5002 in 1978 then purchased by Pacific Locomotive Assciation in 2005 and rebuilt as open-observation 5002 in 2009.





Western Pacific coach 315 built by Pullman in 1923. In 1952 they rebuilt the car as maintenance-of way MW0910 then in 1973, Mr. Norman Holmes, a private owner from Portola acquired it. He donated it to the Pacific Locomotive Association in August 1974; it was restored at Castro Point to service with a new cement floor and coach seats from both Southern Pacific and Santa Fe.

Amtrak Capitol Train 537 passed through before we reboarded to head east to our next photo runby location.
