A Trip to Cajon Pass 11/9/2013 Part 2

by Chris Guenzler

Union Pacific 5634 East heads to West Colton.

BNSF 7747 East came around Sullivan's Curve.

Union Pacific 5429 East stopped four cars short of clearing our only way out so we hiked back into the curve.

BNSF 4054 West.

BNSF 6769 East.

Union Pacific 5422 West with DPU 8087.

BNSF 7533 East. Union Pacific 5429 East finally left Canyon and we escaped. There was a major accident on Interstate 15 so we came out to Cajon after crossing through the waters of Cajon Creek then took old US 66 to get by the accident, after which I guided Bill through Devore which he had never been to before. We went down Cajon Boulevard then back on Interstate 215 to Interstate 10, exited at Rancho Avenue then went over to where Colton Crossing used to be.

BNSF 7268 West went under the Union Pacific mainline at Colton.

BNSF 7126 West.

BNSF 5007 East. As it was moving, Union Pacific 8344 East crossed over the rear of NSF 5007 East. From here we made a stop at the Downtown Riverside Metrolink station.

RBRX F59PH 18533 (ex. Larry's Truck and Electric 18533, nee GO Transit 533, built by Electro-Motive Division in 1988).

The two of us followed the former Los Angeles and Salt Lake (now Union Pacific) mainline through Pomona then went to the RailGiants Train Museum so I could show Bill Big Boy 4014 while it was still there as he had never visited this museum.

This is what you first see as you enter the RailGiants Train Museum in Pomona.

The steam engine had been moved a few track panels away from where the night photo session occurred in August.

The Union Pacific Steam Crew was working hard to make the engine ready for the move back to Cheyenne.

Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 sign at the museum. From here Bill took me home to Santa Ana, ending another great trip together to see trains.
