The Chase of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Train 7/9/2012 Part 2

by Chris Guenzler

We parked along Sierra Highway and set up for our next runby of the Blue Unit Circus Train.

The Blue Unit Circus Train just south of Ansel siding. We made our way over to California Highway 14, taking it south to the Pearblossom Highway, then California Highway 138 to 165th Street East to the grade crossing with the Palmdale cutoff and waited.

The Blue Unit Circus Train at the 165th East grade crossing. The two of us then drove to Cajon Pass and after I thought about late afternoon lighting, we drove up to just below Silverwood, took a wrong turn but after we turned around, caught a BNSF train.

BNSF 7473 West just below Silverwood. We relocated above the Palmdale Cutoff.

Union Pacific 5457 East first came down Cajon Pass below Silverwood. I relocated below the grade crossing here and Carl went high above the cut on the south side of the Palmdale Cutoff.

The Blue Unit Circus Train just below Silverwood. Both Carl and I were very happy with our day but though maybe we could get one more shot of the train, so went to Palm Avenue to the Palmdale Cutoff bridge.

Union Pacific 5457 came down Cajon Pass at twilight, ending a great day of chasing the Blue Unit Circus Train. Carl drove a tired Chris back to Santa Ana, ending another great railfanning adventure.
