West Virginia Rails Part 4 6/27/2010

by Chris Guenzler

I did not realize my camera was on the wrong setting when I took these pictures of the crews of New Hope 17 and Flagg Coal 75 saying goodbye to us. I gave them all one more thank you for coming to this event as we departed Petersburg.

Both ends of the train. Since this was the last train of the four-day event, most of the display engines were being transported back to Romney at the back of our train.

Looking ahead.

I call these rocks the Wall.

Both ends of the train as we made the journey from Petersburg to Romney.

The South Branch Valley Railroad shops.

The Moorefield station sign.

The McNell sign.

Proceeding towards "The Trough".

Both ends of the train again. Now sit back and enjoy the views as we travel northbound through "The Trough".

I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. The total number of bald eagles for the day was eight.

Is Western Maryland 734 on the point of our train? No, it is just a diesel putting out smoke.

We curved towards the South Branch of the Potomac River bridge but stopped at a road for a photo runby.

Reverse move two.

Photo runby two.

Reverse move three.

Photo runby three.

The return move and we all reboarded the train. About five minutes later, we were back in Romney, ending an excellent trip on the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad and officially ending West Virginia Rails 2010. From here, I drove US 50 east to Interstate 81, which I took to Lexington to the Best Western Lexington Inn for the night.
