Texas-New Mexico Moose Trip 11/23/2010 Part 2

by Chris Guenzler

The Moose continued our trip south to Monahans.

The United Carbon spur.

The Moose took this curve.

A lonely windmill.

Combest, New Mexico has a large refinery.

A truck crossing the tracks at Combest.

One more view of Combest with that large refinery.

Milepost 50.

The Moose took another curve on this railroad.

Just another view looking back.

Cattle guards.

A rare rock outcropping along our route.

Rounding a curve.

Looking out the front of the Moose.

At this curve we see our flagman and truck.

Two of the Moose chasers were spotted here.

Silhouettes of a cattle drive to the west of our route.

The Moose took this curve.

Plenty of straight track on this railroad.

And also more curves than I would have expected.

Milepost 44.

There are telephone boxes all along this railroad.

The Moose went through Jal, New Mexico.

Leaving Jal behind.

Tank farm of Union Oil.

Bart Jennings, a Moose chaser.

The Moose left that tank farm behind as we continued south.

I asked for a stop at the Texas/New Mexico state line for a picture, bathroom and stretch break, which was granted.

The Moose sat on the stateline MP 34.1.

The Moose at the state line.

The Moose and the Texas State Line sign.

Milepost 34.

The Moose was rolling down the grade south.

Milepost 33.

The Moose chasers photographing us crossing a wooden trestle.

The wooden trestle.

Our flagman returning to the truck.

Just the railroad and highway out here.

Cattle across the highway.

Moose chasers as we took this curve.

A little color in the vegetation along our route.

The Moose took this curve.

Passing through Kermet, Texas.

We went through another cattle guard.

The Milepost 22 curve.

An old ballast quarry.

Another old telephone box along our route. The Moose's transmission started running rough so we stopped at the road crossing outside of Wink to add some more fluid and stretched our legs while the crew worked.

The crew working on the Moose. They added enough so we could continue onward.
