Henry Ford Museum Part 4

by Chris Guenzler

We start of at the Home Art Section. Now we will look at Furniture of America.

That was a great look at furniture through the years some dating back to the 1600's. Next up was the Made in America Manufacturing section.

There's a Build a Model T where you can grab a tool and help build one.

That was a look at the Made in America Manufacturing section of the Henry Ford Museum.

In the With Liberty and Justice For All Section of the Henry Ford Museum is the Rosa Parks Bus. On December 1, 1955 Rosa Parks boarded this bus to go home from work and helped changed the United States for the better. The rocking chair that President Lincoln was assassinated while sitting on it on April 14, 1865 is also here.

This was my last exhibit. I went to the Wienermobile Cafe for lunch before returning to Greenfield Village.

I arrived just as the train was leaving.

I walked through the village on the way to the windmill.

The Farris Windmill.

A nice autumnal view. I walked over to the north side to catch the approaching Amtrak train.

Amtrak's Wolverine 350 passed outside Greenfield Village.

Next the steam train came by and stopped at the station, which allowed me to get ahead of it again.

I took this last picture while I was walking over to board the train. Bob, Elizabeth and I enjoyed one last trip around Greenfield Village before visiting the gift shop. This was a great experience, not only riding the train, but seeing over 300 years of American History at both the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.

Back to Home

Elizabeth and Bob drove me back to the Detroit Airport and after going though security, I stopped at Burger King for an early dinner then did Sudoku puzzles until Northwest Airlines Flight 661 boarded and we left rainy Detroit a few minutes late. It was a sea of clouds most of the way as we chased the sunset. I did more puzzles and listened to music to pass the time until we arrived at LAX fifteen minutes late, where I made my way straight for the Flyaway Bus to Union Station. One of their employees told me the bus would be right here and then she vanished. Twenty-five minutes later, the bus finally arrived and I missed both Amtrak 592 and the 8:45 PM Metrolink train.

I went down into the station and waited until I learned what track Pacific Surfliner 796 would arrive on. It arrived at 9:45 PM and left at 10:10 PM, as I listened to Metallica's "Death Magnetic" which took me back to Santa Ana. I drove home, ending an excellent but tiring trip to Michigan.
