by Chris Guenzler

After cresting Miramar Hill at CP Cumbres, Santa Fe 3751 rolled down the grade of Rose Canyon.

We continued into CP Elvira.

Going through CP Elvira.

Descending the grade into San Diego.

Paralelling Moreno Boulevard in northern San Diego.

We then crossed the San Diego River.

A few minutes later, the AAPRCO excursion train reached Old Town, the first of today's destinations. As everyone detrained, we were told to return in four hours. Tom Anderson met Chris Parker and I and we tried to get to the front of the train but could not so decided to go to the San Diego River bridge and wait for the it to reverse back across the bridge.

Pacific Surfliner 768 crossed the San Diego River and made its way to the Santa Fe Depot in downtown San Diego.

Our steam train slowly reversed then stopped twice before finally reversing across the bridge.

The steam engine and diesels would cut off and be taken to the Miramar wye at CP Cumbres to be turned. Tom, Chris and I tried to have lunch at the Black Angus by the San Diego Sport Arena but they were not open for lunch on Sundays so we went to Chili's and sat for fifteen minutes before the waitress finally came over, we ordered and she offered us dessert but we did not want any. The manager then gave us a 50 percent discount off our meals which was really nice of him. Afterwards, we drove to CP Moreno and found just the cars of our train on the mainline there so I photographed the consist.
