The roster below is a list of all locomotives owned by the WM at some time during the Chessie Era (1972-1986).  Some of these units were quickly retired by Chessie (ex. S6, RS2) but they did have a few days in the Chessie Era.  A notation in the RETIRED column of CHESSIE means the units were retired by Chessie, CSX means they made it through the Chessie Era and are either working now for CSX or were retired by CSX.

A group of locomotives are listed as being painted into Chessie paint if I could confirm that one in the order was painted into Chessie paint.  That notation does not mean all locomotives in that range were painted Chessie.

Western Maryland units were delivered in four paint schemes.  The first was the fireball scheme, which was all black with a fireball logo.  The second was a speed lettered scheme which was all black with yellow "Western Maryland" spelled out on the long hood.  The third was the red, white, and black circus scheme.  The final paint scheme was the WM-Chessie paint scheme.  Only the GP40-2's were delivered in this scheme.

Western Maryland locomotives were renumbered in 1975 into a consolidated numbering system with the B&O and C&O.  The original numbers are listed in the notes if the numbers changed.  All numbers in the ROAD # column are numbers post-1975 or the only number carried if the unit was not renumbered (ex. S6, RS2).
