Eastbound Passenger Station, Brunswick, Maryland
Brunswick, MD was fairly unique in that it had two passenger
stations for the same railroad on different sides of the parking
lot. The larger and more famous westbound station still
exists today. This smaller and less known eastbound station
used to sit about 100 yards south of the westbound station.
It was significantly smaller and unfortunately damaged in a fire
sometime in the late 70's. It was partially boarded up
during my era, so I modeled it that way.
The station was in the more common cream and brown paint scheme
until about 1976, when it was painted in this light and dark grey
scheme, similar to the other station and WB tower. I even
have one photo of it in overall cream, but that may have been
before the trim was painted brown. During my era there was
only a sign on one end of the building. Pre-1976 there was
one on both ends.
This is my first structure made from a craftsman kit. MJB
Models (Mark Bandy) made this kit around 2010 or so. He is
no longer making kits, but he made several kits of East End
structures that I am building. I added the lights, sign and
plywood to the model, they are not included in the kit.
Also, I reposistioned the chimney to the proper place. The
directions call for it to be off the peak of the roof, which is
incorrect. The station also had rather rare vertical
tarpaper roof. The B&O usually put the strips on
horizontally. They were vertical in photos. The
directions call for shingles, which may have been there
originally, but not in the Chessie Era.
Below is a shot of the real station showing the fire damage.
