"Blue House", Martinsburg, West Virginia
This duplex sits near the tracks in Martinsburg. The Frog
Hollow Industrial track passes right in their front yard.
The house was in a larger than normal blue siding for years with a
mostly metal seamed roof. Today it is covered with a more
normal sized tan siding. Technically it is at 112 S Water
Street, but I just call it the blue house. Since this is
someone's home, I never measured the house. I instead used
Google Maps to make a rough estimate of the size of the house and
estimated the rest from there. I have no 1980ish photos of
this house, but it was built in 1920, so was well established by
the time I model. I also have no idea when any of the
extensions were added in the back of the house, but for my
purposes they all pre-date 1982. I also thought the actual
windows looked new on the real building, so I used a more period
correct window of the same size for my model.
I made this building from wood siding for the walls
and foundation, sheet styrene for the roofs and Grandt Line
windows and doors. The asphalt shingled section are self
adhesive shingle strips.
Below is a shot of the real duplex taken around 2019. By
this time the large chimney on the roof had fallen off.
