Life-Like Proto 2000 PS-2 Covered Hoppers: CNW covered hoppers
were a dime a dozen on the East End. The only problem is that this
paint job is not the most common. Most CNW covered hoppers on the
East End were dark green. Some were even light blue ex-Rock cars.
These cars come assembled, so I painted the wheel faces with primer and
then rust colors (the wheels are metal, so must be primed first).
I painted the trucks black, they come light grey. I weathered the
ends and bottom with oversprays of dirt colors. I added some chalk
weathering. The rust color streaks are common on grain cars, and
the white simulates spilled loads. All in all, a great one night
or one day project. Just add dark green ones by the dozen for each
one light grey one you have.
