THE BALTIMORE AND OHIO RAILROAD COMPANY Chessie System MARYLAND DIVISION TIMETABLE No. 1 Effective 2:01 A.M. Eastern Standard Time SUNDAY, JANUARY 27, 1974 FOR INFORMATION OF EMPLOYES ONLY |
(Yes, it really is that hideous yellow.)
This is the first timetable issued under the Chessie System for the easternmost portion of the B&O, covering everything east of Grafton. It does not cover the C&O or WM lines in the area because, at the time, the B&O Railroad still existed as a separate corporation, in order to take advantage of the state charter and consequent tax benefits.
This timetable refers to the 1969 Operating Rules book as the basic authority on rules. I have been entering this rule book elsewhere on this site, and references to rules in this timetable are cross-referenced where possible. One can see by comparing the two that standards had slid in the interim, at least as far as document prepartion was concerned. You will find numerous little formatting defects and inconsistencies in this timetable. (On the other hand, they still spell it "employe".)
I do not intend to enter all of this timetable at this time; the areas within the geographical scope of this site will get priority, and there are long lists of personnel and phone numbers which, for the sake of privacy, I do not intend to enter at all. Also, in order to avoid simply scanning in images of each page, I have had to make compromizes in the formatting. There is not a lot of consistency in how tables of rules and instructions are laid out in the original, but at any rate I cannot manage to reproduce exactly its appearance within the limits of ordinary HTML at this time. Therefore I have formatted almost all these tables in the same mannner, retaining the information but not the exact appearance.
Eventually there will be frames; for now, click to continue to the Index:
