TRAIN BAGGAGEMEN

    1350. Train baggagemen report to and receive instructions from the Trainmaster, and while on trains are subject to the instructions of the Conductor, and at terminal stations are also subject to the instructions of the Stationmaster, Station Agent or Yardmaster. They are responsible for the safety of all property entrusted to their care, and will comply with the instructions of the Manager of Mail, Baggage and Express Traffic, also Accounting and Passenger Departments.

    They will handle baggage carefully, and remain in the baggage car the entire trip, except when called upon to perform other duties.

    1351. They will provide themselves with and have the necessary signal appliances on hand and ready for immediate use.

    1352. They must keep end doors of baggage cars secured, see that safety chains are in proper position when side doors are open, and that baggage, mail or other matter is so placed as to prevent falling from open doorways. Passengers being handled in invalid chairs or on stretchers, and passengers having business in the car in connection with baggage or property for which they hold duplicate of baggage check may be permitted to enter baggage car.

    1353. They must proper attention to the custody and delivery of United States and train mail, reporting any irregularities promptly to the superintendent. They must carefully handle and keep proper record of same on forms provided for the purpose. When mail or other articles are delivered from moving trains it must be thrown off at designated place, exercising care to see that it will clear train and not strike persons or object.

    1354. They will, unless otherwise directed, remain in the baggage car at the end of trip until all baggage and other matter has been delivered.
