Welcome to my website, chronicling the railroads of the Catskill Mountains! It's a work in progress, so bear with me.
Little do people know that the sleepy Catskill Mountains in upstate New York were once home to quite a network of little shortline railroads. These railroads not only served the locals along their routes but brought the wealthy travellers from the city to the many hotels and boarding houses that dotted the mountain tops. The coming of the railroad to the Catskills brought incalcuble benefits to the people living there. They took the children to school, the farmers milk to market, the ladies to the city to shop, and the mail from friends far away. This website is an attempt to chronicle these railroads from the first attempts at a railroad through the Catskills with the Canajoharie & Catskill Railroad in the 1830s to the end of the Catskill Mountain Branch in 1976 and on to the "rebirth" of railroading in the Catskills with the Delaware & Ulster and Catskill Mountain Railroads today.
