Open in May 1995 the Historical Center has displays on
history of Railroads along with model train layouts. Built in 1911 the station displays
the Dutch Colonial Revival style that is unique to downtown Fayetteville. Today the
station reminds us of the contributions that railroads have made to Fayetteville. On the
other side of the station still operates Amtrak Passenger service to and from
Fayetteville. At the station you can still watch the many trains that pass though the
downtown area and feel the history of railroading.

Once you step into the
Atlantic Coast Line Depot Railroad Historical Center you will see railroading on a smaller
scale. Three model railroads will greet you, an O scale layout, HO scale module layout,
and a N scale layout. When you further explore the center you will see displays of Track
working tools, a Semaphore signal, a switch machine, photos, timetables, lanterns,
paintings, and memorabilia of railroading past and present, and sit and watch a video on
railroading or if your lucky you will here a train engineer voice come across the scanner
and then watch that train past though Fayetteville. Over 30 trains pass though
Fayetteville every day.
Preserving railroad history, learning about railroading, and having fun is what we hope
will bring you downtown to visit the Atlantic Coast Line Depot Railroad Historical Center.
