Canterbury Railway Society Inc News Track Maintenance Proceeding Well 17/8/01 Another track maintenance weekend was held on the Ferrymead Railway on the 28th and 29th of July. Three rails were replaced near Duncans Bridge. In the following week, a crew completed the new Road 4 turnout in front of the carriage shed. The Road 5/6 turnout is expected to be moved into position soon after some earthworks have been done. A further weekend's work on the 4th and 5th of August saw 40 sleepers replaced along the main straight. Ballast was also ploughed out with DE 1429. The signals team also fitted new bond wires to the joints of the new rails. Work will begin soon to reorganise the track depot alongside the carriage shed. Work is now underway to regauge the Hall of Wheels siding curve and fit a set of catch points at the entrance to the siding. |
