Canterbury Railway Society Inc News Fell Centre Rail Display To Be Relocated 25/12/00 One of the exhibits presently at Ferrymead in the Moorhouse station area is a section of Fell centre rail ex the Greymouth area where two coal lines used the Fell system for braking heavy trains while descending steep gradients (up to 1 in 25). The Canterbury Railway Society also owns a Fell brake van from the Rewanui line. Earlier this year, Society members cleared and tidied the area around the centre rail track in order to allow it to be used to store wagons for display. However it has been found that the clearance of these modern wagons is insufficient to allow them to be stored there. Therefore the Fell rail section is being lifted as one unit to be relocated elsewhere. It is likely that a display will be set up with the centre rail track. |
