Carriage Shed Project Contract Let

The Canterbury Railway Society has let a contract to a construction company to close in the front of the carriage shed.

The contract, which has been funded by a community grant, involves the erection of a steel portal frame to strengthen the front of the shed and support the weight of the doors that will be hung on each of the six roads of the shed.

This project will at last give the Society a secure storage building for its large collection of rolling stock. Last year funding enabled a sprinkler system to be installed in the shed and this is now in operation. The present contract is scheduled for completion in June 2002.
