Canterbury Railway Society Inc News Local Railfan Passes Away 25/4/00 Well known local railfan, Gavin Halliburton, passed away in Christchurch recently. Gavin Halliburton was for a number of years the Secretary of the Canterbury Steam Preservation Society, which operates the McLeans Island Steam Railway. He was also the father of Tom Halliburton, who was a member of the Canterbury Railway Society for a number of years. Gavin was also a lay preacher in the Anglican Church, and he officiated at a special ceremony at Ferrymead in 1996 when Vulcan Railcar RM 51 was dedicated to the memory of the late Gordon Jory, a plaque being unveiled for that purpose. He died after a short illness and his funeral was held in Christchurch on 22 April. |
