C R S Receives Grant For F 13 Restoration

In April 2000 the Canterbury Railway Society received a grant to aid with the restoration of F 13.

F 13 "Peveril" has been one of our restored steam locomotives since 1984. Built in 1872, it is one of the oldest locomotives we have at Ferrymead and has been on our site for some 30 years. Being a 20 ton tank engine, it is more economical to run than some of our larger engines and was used extensively for passenger operations until the mid 90s when it fell due for a 10 year survey. This had to be sidelined due to work on other engines, most notably the 10 year survey of CB 113, but has now been picked up again and will be progressed this year alongside the restoration of D 140. The grant we received was of $10,000 from the Canterbury Community Trust and the work commenced at Easter.
