F 13 Restoration Report

Progress on the restoration of steam locomotive F 13 has been at a standstill this year. The work was begun at Easter, 2000, being the 10 year overhaul of the locomotive in conjunction with its decadal boiler inspection. Visitors to Ferrymead have observed the locomotive's saddle tank and cab on top of a shipping container, with the other parts located in different places on our site.

However once the restoration of D 140 has been completed later this year, the team expects to complete the work on F 13. The boiler will be sent to Lyttelton Engineering for tubeplate repairs and retubing. The wheelsets will need to be turned/quartered and a possible bent axle corrected.
