C R S Receives Grant For D Carriage Restoration

In April 2000 the Canterbury Railway Society received a grant to aid with the restoration of D 26.

D 26 is a four wheel carriage of the type that ran on NZR in its very early days. After withdrawal from NZR the D was sold to the Homebush Estate and used as a bathhouse. Since coming to Ferrymead it has been in storage, but was put into the workshop several years ago for restoration. Some work was done until early this year when it returned to the carriage shed so work could begin on F 79. The sum of $11,250 has now been received from the Lotteries Grants Board and work can now be continued under the stewardship of Keith Brown.
